Hi, y'all,

Just a quick visit. I wanted to let y'all know I haven't disappeared. I've just been super duper busy with the new project (well, not so new now) and puppies. Our mommy isn't being a very good mommy. We've lost two of the puppies but the rest are growing by leaps and bounds. Yes, I need to get some pictures of them posted. We have four brindle and three fawns. At least two of the brindles are going to be reverse brindle--they will be more light with dark stripes as opposed to dark with light stripes.

I have to take Breezy in to the pups and sit with her while they feed, or she won't stay with them. I am beginning to think they've made her sore, because she's quite antsy when feeding. Tomorrow I'm going to take the fingernail clippers and clip their SHARP little nails. I got a taste of how sharp they are. My legs are covered with scratches. Today I bought some baby cereal and am mixing it with milk. They took to that right away. These pups kinda have me baffled. They aren't keeping to a time table that I'm used to. By now, at three weeks, all my other litters have had teeth. (They weren't mastiff puppies, by the way, and I'm thinking these little giants might develop more slowly.) These guys don't have teeth yet. They opened their eyes on a typical time table, but the teeth are taking longer than I'm used to.

Since mastiffs are slow to reach full growth (three years) and slow to mature emotionally too, I'm going to give Breezy one more chance at motherhood. It will be a year before we breed her again, anyway, because I do NOT believe in making my dogs puppy factories. She was rather immature about the breeding too, so that might be the problem. I'm going to write to the breeder from whom we got our male and see if this might be the problem. If not, Breezy will get fixed and we'll find another bitch.

We started out in one of those plastic children's pools. That was where we lost the first puppy. Breezy must have laid on it. I know she laid on the second one, after we moved her and the pups to our closet, where she had more room. Now they've taken over the sitting room off our bedroom. Sheesh! It's still a little cool to have them outside. We're hoping it warms by next weekend, because they are rapidly getting too big for even the sitting room. We had a hot spell for a couple of weeks, but now it's cooler than normal. Go figure!

My project is coming along well. It's a really big one and takes a LOT of my time. The drawings are crappy and I'm having to scale a lot. Not good but at least I'm only doing plan drawings for now--and those are only for location purposes. The plans don't have to be totally correct dimensionally. I'm probably going to have a little time on my hands this week. I've gotten the plans mostly done (all 60+ sheets of 'em) and will set up files for making the details. I'm NOT going to draw elevations until I have some more information. New architectural drawings are supposed to be coming out at the end of this month, and I have a feeling there's going to be a lot more information in those than the ones I have now.

So... I'm still going to mainly be among the missing for a while. This week I am hoping to put out a new feature journal. Sorry I'm lagging behind on that.

Tomorrow I HAVE to remember to call the doctor and get an appointment for Katelynn. She's got spots on her tonsils again. And one of these days I HAVE to get my driver's license. Due to the situation with grief, I let it expire without realizing it. Duh, Anj. Pretty dumb, hmmm? Anyway, since it expired, I can no longer use it as a primary identification, so I had to send for my birth certificate. That's rather a chore when one doesn't live in the state where one was born. I have it now, so it's a matter of reading the handbook and getting someone to drive me in to take the test. I might even have to take the driving test, which would be a pain in the you-know-what. But, you gotta do what you gotta do, ya know?

Sorry, forgot that I wanted to mention that I haven't been here this week at all. I've been so busy with work and the puppies and all. I just came tonight because it's my normal time for features and because we had puppies and I wanted to share the news. I probably won't be doing a feature next week, because it's looking like it's going to be a bad week work wise.

We FINALLY had puppies! Nine healthy and happy baby mastiffs, six of them are brindles and three appear to be fawns, at least right now. Five girls and four boys. It's possible one or two of the ones that appear to be fawns might be reverse brindles. I'm shocked. I thought the fawn would be dominant over the brindle. And these babies are VERY brindle. When we got Breezy, at three months, she was almost completely black and only turned brindle as she got older. Almost all of the brindles are already as brindle-y as she is now. There is only one female that is as dark as she was.

So, after two virtually sleepless nights, followed by a three hour nap after one of them and a 20 minute nap today, I'm exhausted but happy. Way too much work on my plate and I didn't really have time for this, but nature chooses her own time and it was this week.
